The Financial Status of Women
Women in business are making their mark. Below are statistics that should be an encouragement to us all. More women are starting businesses and thriving, making a positive impact on the economy, and getting university degrees. We have not yet reached gender equality, but as these stats show, the gap between the sexes, from a financial standpoint, is closing.
$ In the United States, eight million women own their own businesses and employ more than twice that number of people (33% of businesses in the US).
$ Women control 80% of consumer spending in the United States.
$ In 1976, only 17% of all donations to political parties were made by women. By 1996, 23%.
$ Women are not only more involved in financial planning and investments, but now represent 25% of all e-trading.
$ 55% of all college degrees are earned by women.
$ Women in technology are more inclined to start their own businesses, and with good reason. According to Women in Technology International, the failure rate of new female-owned businesses (39%) is half that of all new businesses (80%).
$ In one generation, the average female salary has gone from 59% of the average male salary to between 80% and 85%.
$ According to the National Foundation for Women Business Owners, women-owned businesses-which account for one quarter of business in the economy worldwide-produce annual revenues of $2.3 trillion in the United States.
