Print Women Today Magazine Submission Guidelines
by January 17, 2007Women Today Magazine offers the women of the world information about the issues that affect us every day: relationships, career, health and beauty, spirituality, fitness, parenting, marriage, finances, and more. This information, while broad-based, is offered from a Christian perspective.
Seeking
We select articles that will appeal to a global audience. These articles must be uplifting, informative and pertinent to modern women. With the exception of Life Stories, articles do not need to have specific Christian content; however, the tone and content of every story will reflect a Christian viewpoint. We believe that every woman's life is a gift from God and that a personal relationship with Him will provide them with meaning, purpose and significance.
We publish journalistic, nonfiction items only and therefore do not accept photography, cover art, poetry, short stories, or product endorsements. We welcome unpublished and first time writers. Excerpts from books that can stand alone are considered.
Readership
Statistics indicate that our visitors tend to be engaged in a career, are moderately to highly computer-literate and are usually over the age of eighteen.
Publishing
Women Today Magazine is published online monthly. WTM is read in 177 countries around the world. Close to 60% of the magazine is free-lanced.
NB: There used to be a print magazine also called Women Today that was loosely associated with the online version. The print version is no longer in production.
Rights & Compensation
Women Today Magazine is part of a non-profit organization and as such cannot offer compensation for articles. We are seeking One Time Rights. All copyright remains with the author. Any reprint requests we receive will be directed to the author if a contact address has been provded for this purpose. The copyright you designate will accompany all text online. Publication on our site offers contributors international exposure and we are always happy to add a link to the website of your choice along with author contact information.
Queries & Submissions
Queries are no longer required. All submissions are accepted through our online submission system ONLY. Submissions emailed directly to the editors may be deleted, unread. The submission system is not currently set up to handles attachments. Please cut and paste your article into the field provided.
Lead time is a minimum of three months in advance of publication date (publication date is the last week of the previous month) for regular submissions, four to six months in advance for seasonal pieces.
Reviewing takes approximately four to six weeks. You will only be contacted if your work has been accepted. We cannot respond to phone enquiries.
Specifics
All accepted articles will be accompanied by the byline and the biography specified by the author. Author bios should be one to three lines of type (approximately 50 words). A contact email and / or URL will be included if provided and deemed appropriate. Women Today reserves the right to refuse URLs that link to sites that are in conflict with the mandate of the magazine.
Departments & Columns
Departments
Articles for the different departments should range 1000 to 1200 words (approx) and be in a format suitable for internet readers. Again, we are seeking non-fiction journalistic articles. Assignments are occasionally given to writers we have worked with previously. If you wish to be considered for further assignments, please indicate this in your query. Writing for the Internet audience entails the use of subtitles, bulleted lists where possible and concise writing. Paragraphs are usually shorter than those in a print article and must not contain more than one idea. Simply submitting the same article as written for print is not effective. If you need assistance to format for an Internet audience we can help you, however articles in the proper format will always be given precedence.
Career Focuses on any aspect of the working woman in the new millennium. We are currently accepting very few articles in this category.
Family Seeks to provide women with the information they need to nurture and maintain positive, meaningful family relationships. Includes parenting, children of all ages, schooling, step-families, dealing with bereavement, home management, stress, spending quality time and the ever changing role of women in the modern household. Does not include marriage (see Relationships below).
Life Stories Life Stories are the true autobiographical account of one woman's personal encounter with Jesus Christ and the resulting positive changes in her life. All life stories will be edited to include a sample prayer and invitation. Please not that the same word count applies for life stories. We receive many life story submissions that far exceed the length guidelines. We are unable to use these lifestories as we do not have the time to edit them down for you.
Money Approaches finance from an international perspective. We are currently accepting very few articles in this category.
Relationships Focuses on healthy relations between the sexes. Sample topics include marriage, couples, dating, singleness, online dating, marriage building, dating your spouse, mutual devotion, encouraging your spouse, dealing with stress, marital expectations and heartbreak.
Columns
All columns should range 600 to 1000 words and deal with a practical application of the topic. Columns tend toward, but are not limited to, "how-to" articles.
Beauty - Any aspect of fashion, make up, hair, nails, spa treatments, bath necessities or personal grooming.
Health and Fitness - Nutrition, (please note that we rarely print diets) exercise, healthy living, well being are all covered.
Food and Cooking - All recipes on the site are furnshed through an existing content partnership. We are not currently accepting submissions in this category.
Advice - The advice column is written by a professional, licensed therapist and does not accept submissions.
